Tips from fellow travelers
Gong Grit Bar
There are many restaurants on Klong Dao Beach and quite a few which seem to be really good. But this restaurant was by far our favourite one! Gong, his wife and sister render the best and friendliest service you can think of and make you feel like being at home! Their drinks (beer and - most important - cocktails) are great. The food is absolutely delicious - everything - their curries, seafood, fish or steak dishes make you go there over and over again - mmmmmmh - and everything is served freshly cooked and at a very good value! Sitting in front of the restaurant on one of the chairs right on the beach, with a cocktail or any other drink in our hand and watching the sunset, was definitely always one of our highlights of the day! They serve peanuts with a drink, too! Absolutely cozy atmosphere (especially at sunsets or at night) and super service!
Any of the dishes we ordered were really good - freshly cooked and really tasty!
Opium Bar
before the opium bar becomes a fully fledged bar/nightclub, it is a restaurant serving beautiful thai dishes. for those not of thai liking, you can also get yummy pizza and other 'western' foods. i had the chicken & cashew nut stir fry, and by golly, it was yummo! the others had various thai dishes as well, and everyone enjoyed their meals alot. the presentation and service were excellent (in part because the waiter, kamille, was so sexy and kay loved him lar!) i would definitely recommend this place for a good meal, and their cocktails were great as well! sex on the beach... yum, my favorite! ;-)
Lanta Pavilion Resort Restaurant
during the day before new year's eve, we came to lanta pavilion and sat by the beach and ate an awesome meal. we decided that it was probably a good bet for new years eve as well, so we went there. they had a seafood bbq and a buffet set out, and it was very nice! we all gathered together and ate, and after the meal, they had children doing performances and fire twirling. it was a good start to a wild night!
im hopeless at remembering these names, but the riviera had an awesome huge menu to chose from, so you can pretty much get anything, from traditional thai, to more western cuisine. the buffet was all thai, and it was yum!
Same Same But Different
Right on the beach.Tastefully decorated with Thai wood decor. You can eat literally barefooted burying yr feet in the fine sand.
King mackrel,Barracuda,Snappers grilled or fried are simply fresh and delicious.,Crispy prawn crackers to go with cold beer,,Beef curry is spicy and and tender.Chicken in green curry is fragrant,Pad thai(fried flat noodles) with generous helpings of fresh prawns. I also tried the raw prawns thai style. This is not to my taste as each prawn is accompanied by a piece of bitter gourd( bitter n yuks!!!) ,accompaning sauce is too salty. The prawns are big and fresh though..so much better with japanese wasabi. So next time bring a tube of wasabi!
The Noodle Shop
Nice surrondings build on stilts extending to the sea.You can eat while admiring the view of the sea.Cool n Breezy!!!!!!All types of noodles, fried, soup with Chicken Roast pork.........In the evening BBQ sea food are best at Seafood Lanta(4 th shop left of police post as u face it)or Seaview Rest on the right of police post.
BBQ or grilled Seafood cheaper than Ao Nang,Karabi. These cannot be fresher as fishermans haul in their daily catches
Lanta Sunny House
The food here was very good and there was quite the variety. The portions were good and they were definitely filling enough to kill any hunger pains. The restaurant is small with only three or four tables, but comfortable and there is a TV, so you can watch movies while you eat or drink. The staff are very friendly, it is a nice peaceful place to have a meal and maybe a "little" drinking fun.
All of the meals I had here were great, but I guess the fried noodles and beef stand out the most . The price is good (85bht) and you get a huge meal to eat. Many of the meals are priced around 85-120bht and are all worth it.........I better stop before I start drooling.
